Sport: Tennis

We have been going down to the local tennis court a few times this year to knock some balls about and for me to learn the basics of tennis.


Tennis can be played casually or competitive if you want.  You can learn and understand the sport while you're are having fun.


It took me a bit of time to get to the stage of hitting balls and getting them to go where I want. I more or less got the serve right away but we moved onto the drop serve for casual play. At this stage I prefer a drop serve for knocking balls about. I am hitting balls from the base line and generally managing direction. I am managing to hit balls much harder and managing to hit a lot of them back.


Hitting a few shots in a row is called a rally.

Its important to learn the terminology used in tennis and get to know the rules and scoring.

Volley, Serve,  Ready position, Match,  Love,  Lob,  Ground Stroke, Game, Forehand stroke (Hip height),  Drop Shot, Down The Line, Doubles,  Double Fault, Deuce, Cross-Court, Backhand stroke (Knee height), Alley,  Advantage, Ace...
