Training Course: Creating a website

We went on a 1 day course on How to Design a Website.

I learnt a lot and kept up with all the adults who were on the course!  It was really cool.

We looked at creating websites using free online tools.

There are a few places that provide free online tools.  You can then publish the website you create to your own domain.  A domain can be purchased  from http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ for example and they have different packages and prices but they are usually under £10 per year.

Free online tools are found on:  weebly, spanglefish, yola and a number of other sites.

You also need someone to host the website and this is based on cost and convenience.

They were showing us on the course that if you have a small business you can design a fairly basic, functional website that looks professional by yourself as web designers charge a lot of money - usually at least £100 per page and £40+ per hour for changes.

You need to know how to resample your photographs to web size so that people can view them easily and quickly.  There was a training manual and we did certain exercises to help us understand how the online design tool worked and what options you had.

I attended this course as I make and sell my own jewellery and also paint fantasy and mythology related pictures which I want to sell at some stage.  Its good to have your own website and you can set up a on line shop quite easily using online tools and paypal.  All you need is an account that can be used with paypal.

I recently got a new card that allows me to do this.

The website course was run by http://www.concentiaconsulting.com/. through Business Gateway http://www.consentia.co.uk/business-gateway.asp.

It was quite fun and interesting and we got free stress balls which were red hearts.  They are cool.
