Learning more - with everything you do (and some more links to useful homeschool sites)

My sister has a reading book at school about a tortoise in Africa and an elephant and a hippo.  She did not know about these animals or Africa so we searched on the internet and printed off some colouring pages for her and some fun fact sheets about each animal.  We also found some youtubes which tell you the difference between african and asian/indian elephants and tortoises and turtles and ones about hippos.  Then we found some maps of Africa for her.  Now she knows loads of stuff and so having a reading book becomes a whole learning experience instead of just being a story about stuff she does not know about.

Its amazing how little one is taught at these schools.  Its really sad and a terrible waste of kids time.  The kids here are so ignorant and it because the school and their parents dont teach them anything.  People take it for granted that the school is educating their kids, but this is not happening.

My sister learnt so much today and she is so amazed that her teacher never told her anything about the parts of the story, because everything you do is really a platform for learning loads of things!
