Not all good readers are good spellers....
I am working form a book called:
Help your Child Spell Well by Ken Adams
It has some good tips on how to spell well.
Each year I work on my own personal dictionary. These are words I use every day and tend to get wrong for various reasons. I write them out each day. I first wirte out the wrong spelling once and mark it with (x) - then underneath that, on a new line, I write the correct spelling. Then I write a whole line of the correct spelling and I write out a sentence with that word. I practice these words for a week (5 minutes each day) and by the end of the week I should have it right. This also helps me to work out why I got the word wrong i.e., rules, sounds, exceptions to the rules. Here are some words that I have been working on in my personal dictionary, this year.
